A wonderful place with great, relaxing atmosphere. The owner is a very nice and friendly lady who can speaks English and served you with healthy & delicious vegan/vegetarian food. English menu is available. Good value for money (lunch is around 830yen1250yen). I had their Today's Genmai lunch (880yen) which was a typical Japanese brown rice set, and it included salad, a small bowl of soup and a drink. Definitely recommend it

comfortable atmosphere
Dedicated vegan restaurant with personal attitude and refined meals. Highly recommended.
One of the older local vegan restaurants with good food at affordable prices. Definitely worth the visit. The ambiance is really chill, they have some soothing music and incense burning. Pretty Hipster. The owner said they ran this place for 15 years, and started serving vegetarian food from 10 years ago. We were visiting Kumamoto Castle from Fukuoka, and walked here for lunch. They don't have car parking so be ready for that. The restaurant's on the 2nd floor, so keep your head up when you're searching for it haha we totally walked passed it the first time. They have a lunch menu from 2-4pm and a dinner menu from 4pm onwards -- it wasn't clear when they close. We visited on 24/12/18 and the menu seems to be quite similar to the photos here. There was a genmai lunch(rice set) 880yen, a pasta lunch 880yen, a special lunch of 1250yen, which has both the rice and pasta, and a burger890yen. The lunch sets come with a small salad, cup of soup, free drink, and the special lunch has a dessert too. The pasta and rice set changes each day I think. The day we went, the pasta had a tomato sauce base and the rice set had a brocolli croquette with a creamy sauce with spinach. There were 5 of us so we all got different things. I got the special lunch and so ate the pasta and rice and it was great! I got to have a larger serving of pasta for free too just by asking. One friend had the burger and she loved it! For the drink we had coffee and chai. I personally had the chai and it was pretty good. The dessert was also okay. But overall, the food was quite filling and tasted great, and for all we got the price was quite affordable. I'm definitely visited if I come to Kumamoto again.
There is very little in the way of vegan restaurant food in Kumamoto, but Private Lodge is the shining exception. The core of their menu is healthful and delicious vegan macrobiotic food. They have two specials a day, one is typically pasta and the other is curried vegetables. 850 Yen gets you a small salad, the special, and coffee, tea, or vegan chai. The days they are open are sporadic, so you will need to check their Facebook page and be able to read Japanese. By late morning they post their day's menu, if they are going to be open. But they are almost always open Saturdays from noon to about 4 p.m. The owner also cooks at a second location elsewhere in Kumamoto, and I think this is mentioned on their Facebook page as well. I am so grateful that a vegan business like this exists in Kumamoto. The food is excellent and affordable, and this restaurant is very deserving of public support.
