Fun ride from 1500 feet to about 7000 in this 1 hour, 4 1/2 mile cog wheel train ride through idilic scenery and views.

Nice staff, impressive route but hardly on time. Small delays create chain reactions because there's a need to wait for the train from the other direction (one track). The announcements about the engineering accomplishments/UNESCO acknowledgement are a bit too packed with superlatives, as opposed to being strictly informational. Also - it would be much better to transfer these to screens only, since hearing them over and over again is a real headache.

I mean for general transportation it's fine. You will arrive, you will be safe, and the staff are friendly. BUT: -They don't clean properly (it's very common to be greeted by an awful smell when stepping into the train). -There are CONSTANT delays, especially in the Engadin. Sure, by international standards they're probably punctual but this is Switzerland for God's sake. 15 minutes delay is okay once or twice but it happens ALL THE TIME here. Why? Surely there is a way to stop this ridiculousness. I think their poor standards are due to the fact that they are a private railway (as opposed to SBB which is run by the government). So, they are cutting costs. They don't need to have high standards because they are a monopoly in the region, they have no competition (unless you count the buses, but who want's to spend more than 30 minutes or so on a bus). However, there are some very good things about this train line: -You can open the windows. -The staff are generally much more chilled than SBB (won't fine you a billion francs on the spot for having the wrong ticket). -They have a few slick new trains that they upgraded (very nice).
