AWFUL experience that is costing me thousands of unnecessary dollars. The doctor I saw was either unprofessional in his knowledge level or deceitful in creating a need for me to get expensive testing that was totally unnecessary. I visited the ER in January while sick with covid. I was told they wanted to do a CT scan to rule out a blood clot despite normal vitals. When I questioned this they said they could give me a blood test first to determine if there was a need to do further testing which is how I requested to proceed. I explained that I did not want to do an expensive CT scan unless necessary. I paid for the blood test but when The doctor came in he gave me INCORRECT bloodwork results indicating that my levels were 5x elevated when in fact they were barely elevated. I did not learn what my ACTUAL levels were until I reviewed my charts online when I got home. I asked for and paid for this blood test in order to make an educated decision on how to proceed with care and was either deliberately misinformed to make me get the more expensive test or the doctor was clueless on what normal levels of this very routine blood test were...either way I was given inaccurate results to the medical test I requested and paid for to inform my care. Isn't accuracy of utmost importance in quality of care? Not according to this hospital. I filed an appeal when my bill which should have been about 1000 for the necessary care was instead over 4500 because of the unnecessary testing. I was told that \this was within their level of care\ I asked for clarification...was it the expected level of care to be given inaccurate test results to inform medical decision making and I was told again \your experience was within our standards of care\. All I can say is be careful if you choose to use this hospital as in my experience their \quality and standards of care\ were shady at best. I will drive the extra 30 minutes to Savannah next time.

We had our baby here. The staff is friendly. The hospital is very secure. The doctors and nurses are so professional and the delivery room was clean and functional. My wife had a great delivery and our son is doing fine. We highly recommend to have your children born here. We live in Lady’s Island and I think this was a great choice to have our son.

I visited the ER in August 2020 for what I feared might be a ruptured appendix. Thankfully, that turned out not to be the case and after an IV used to administer a mild pain killer, a CT scan, and a single antibiotic pill, I received a diagnosis, a prescription to be filled at my normal pharmacy, and was able to head home. I was never admitted to the hospital, and the whole visit was less than three hours. I received a radiology bill first, which, after insurance, wasn't unreasonable and was paid without question. Then, in December 2020, I finally received the rest of my bill, which came in the form of a hospital bill and then a separate physician's bill. I started to add everything up and, had I not had insurance, the whole bill would've been over 18,000. The most outrageous charge was nearly 10,000 for the CT scan - about twice as much as the most expensive CT scan I can find listed anywhere. I disputed the bill but today was told that the hospital charges the “fair market” price for everything and there was nothing I could do now except set up a payment plan for the remaining balance (about 7,500). I will be filing an appeal with my medical provider’s patient advocate and advising anyone I meet to never use this hospital, not even in an emergency. Sad because the quality of care I received was good, and, despite the other reviews mentioning questionable cleanliness, I only saw one cockroach.

My 21 year old with Covid 19 went to the ER here Friday 2/5/21 at approximately 10:15pm with trouble breathing. She has auto-immune issues so we are being extra cautious, and told her to go on and go to the hospital to get checked out since it was the weekend and she wouldn’t be able to see her regular doctor until at least Monday. Her roommate dropped her off, as they knew they would not be able to go in with her, so just planned to pick her up, not realizing my daughter would not be allowed inside. She was not allowed inside until she was called so she was made to sit outside, it was approximately 45-50 degrees and raining. She was very weak and had been suffering from a fever so she had to sit on the ground because she was feeling too light headed and achy to stand, and someone was sitting on the only bench and she wanted to keep 6 feet distance. At around 11pm she was finally called in. She saw a doctor one time for a few minutes who sent her for a chest X-ray. Then a nurse came in to give her discharge papers. A doctor did not come back in to let her know about her X-ray, in fact the X-ray was never mentioned again. We only assumed it was normal. She had a rash covering her body but no one bothered to even look at it. We assumed it is a Covid symptom but couldn’t be sure since no one looked at it. I cannot believe we paid a 300 copay for this “service” and will still have a bill coming for the remaining balance, for NOTHING. She is still not well, and is now suffering from a horrible cough with continued breathing issues. I would hate to think her Covid 19 symptoms have worsened because a HOSPITAL made her sit outside on the ground in the dark, on a cold rainy night for nearly an hour, and really did nothing preventative nor did they check for any other signs or symptoms she was suffering from. If you have Covid, and need help, I highly recommend you go elsewhere.

This hospital provided, hands down, the WORST service I've ever faced. I came in because I was facing the first days of pregnancy, unable to eat or drink for two days at this point, and travel ahead of me the next day. We spent SIX Hours in the emergency room, with staff spending no more than ten minutes with us overall. I was seeing blood. The doctor came in with a laugh saying \I've never just had to tell someone if they're pregnant or not\.. we corrected her, as that is not why we were there. She told she would get me fluids, and do a pelvic exam. We never saw her again. After hours of waiting, my husband asked for something for me to put in my stomach.. We recieved expired graham crackers and a Subway napkin? Filthy. In addition, we were set up in a bed with stains, and a room with blood spatter here and there. Being on vacation, I'd left my insurance card in my home. We called back to give the info. Our final charge was over 3,000 for the most neglected hospital experience we've faced in our days. They only sent 1/2 of their billing to claims for insurance, leaving 1,300 going to collections while I was awaiting an updated bill. DO NOT ATTEND COASTAL CAROLINA HOSITAL. You're better off at Hilton Head Hospital.
