We were there right at opening time when we visited in March and were to enjoy the whole site by ourselves.

Make sure to get a taxi up there. It's quite a steep walk but worth it. Has a really good view of the center of coimbra

Coimbra, the church of Rhaina St. Isabel. A story of being told, the Queen always helps to the poor. Queen Isabel was so kind and to give the poor her jewelry. One day. The King asked her what she had wrapped in her cloak. She had bread for the poor inside. She opened her cloak and it was full of Roses! So it became known as The Miracle of the Roses! The story was told and passed down by local people.

May be important for religious people, but overall it's just a sort of a tourist trap. Cloisters, two halls and church is all what's for the visit.

Beautiful place indeed, both the cloister ruins as the abbey itself. Interesting museum as well. Must see for any one interested in history. Cheap tickets too
