I had the pleasure of scuba diving with Daniel Malfanti, a former Chilean Navy Seal and owner of Tamarugo Dive. He is a very friendly and safety minded professional diver. No matter if you are a beginner or experienced technical diver you will be in good hands. I can recommend Daniel and Tamarugo Dive to anyone who wants to dive in Valparaiso.

Let me tell you about my adventure with "Tamarugo Dive": First of all, the owner of this dive shop, Daniel Malfanti retired after 20 years of service as a Chilean Navy Seal. He then decided to take the teaching and diving skills he knew so well and make it his 2nd career. Although Daniel teaches everything from basic through advanced, this is the most "technical diving" shop I have seen so far as a scuba diver. All his rental gear is in top-notch condition. He rents everything from conventional scuba gear to scooters and rebreathers. The rental rates are very reasonable. We originally met primarily because I speak little Spanish and needed a bilingual scuba instructor to teach me the speciality of "dry suit" scuba diving. After a morning of classroom instruction we agreed to meet the next morning to go diving and apply my new instruction. We met at his dive shop in Concón and drove together to Valparaíso, where he has a boat. His boat resembles something you would see in a Navy Seals movie. A Zodiac. (I have a vivid imagination, so on the boat ride out to the sunken ship we were going to visit that morning I could easily imagine going along on a SEAL mission - minus the armament, smile). There were two other divers along and Daniel supervised all of us. As a PADI certified Master Scuba diver, I have never been treated with so much attention to ensure my care and safety. I can report to you that in addition to being one of the coolest dudes you could ever meet, Daniel is also a kind and thoughtful gentleman. I would recommend him to anyone who wants scuba instruction (on any level), rental gear or just a great divemaster to supervise your underwater exploration in the Viña/Valparaíso area.
