Had an appointment and everything was fine as long as you've got the requested documents. Sorted in 15-20 mins. The ladies from the offices were very professional, I'm glad to see the changes and hope it will be the same in the future. As usual there were people waiting outside for more than half an hour as they've got their appointments at a later time. Furthermore they came in at least 1 hour before the appointment time thinking they'll sort it out faster. Bad luck for them, they should stick with their time of appointment.

I have renewed my passport around a month ago and I’m giving the 5 star rating because: 1.We finally have a Consulate up North and we don’t have to travel to London. 2.The process was simple and accurate, if you are prepared you save precious time for yourself and the working staff who are mainly extremely busy. Their instructions were clear especially during the pandemic and I was in and out in 20 minutes. I had booked a private parking place at 2 minutes walk from the Consulate, there is a cash point at 1 minute walk from the Consulate if cards cannot be accepted, they have responded to my calls in a timely manner and also updated/informed me via email with regards to my inquiries. To point the fact that on their website you find every single detail about what you need to prepare prior to your appointment. You create your own personal account where you can upload needed documents or you can hand them over in person at the counter. It also clearly states that you should have a prepaid envelope if you require the documents to be sent to your home address. I was advised that my passport will be received in up to 45 days and it was received in 21 days which was accurate. Straightforward and well informed, for things to go smooth you have to do your part so be well prepared before attending your appointment
Did not give correct advice on documentation needed to renew passport or the fact both partners would be needed to confirm the UK marriage certificate so one wasted journey already. And the fact we have to travel an 8 hour round trip ito Edinburgh is ridiculous when this Embassy is an hour away. Would love to know how the previous reviewers were able to renew at Manchester?!
Incompetence at it’s finest, nobody answering the phone, couldn’t change my passport because they weren’t taking any appointments anymore then they change where you have to go to get new passport to Edinburgh not everyone can dump their kids and go 8 hours journey to Scotland when you live near Manchester. They could simplify the process doing everything online like UK does but I tend to forget why I left România
Think they’re all sleeping in the Romanian consulate in Manchester since nobody answering the calls or emails. Only excuses, it’s either the pandemic or the elections (of course they can do elections but they can’t change an expired passport) Utter madness just like all Romanian institutions where they have no reason to help their citizens. Easier to get sorted if you die, then they help you with repatriation
