Balancing Rock is a great hike if you are after something on the shorter side, with the option to turn it into a longer hike if you wish. Once on top of the trail you get amazing views of the valley and wetlands. Certainly worth checking out if you are in Creston and want a short hike!

Not bad for a quick hike. Went in the afternoon though and it would be better to go in the morning or evening when it's cooler as there is no shade protection. Nice views all along the way, but right on the highway. Would like to explore further up the mountain next time, but we headed back down after reaching the rock.

The hike itself at times was challenging, yet at times an easy walk. The views on the first leg of the hike were amazing. The balancing rock itself was somewhat anticlimactic. We chose to return via the Fern Trail which took as out to Hwy 3 about 2 km up the highway from the start of Balancing Rock Trail. It was not fun walking back down the highway particularly with our dog in tow. In total it took us 1 hour & 50 mins. At the beginning of the Fern Trail, I could see it being pretty muddy in the Spring or after heavy rain.

This is a short hike with a nice view of Creston. The balancing rock is a bit \meh\. At the end of May the wild flowers were really nice. The parking lot is a good place to leave your car. We used this trail as the tail-end of an excellent 1 way day hike. We were dropped off at the South Summit logging road were it meets Hwy 3 on the way up to Salmo Pass. We then walked to the cut line for the powerline were a trail sign marks the path. We followed the cut line to the intersection with the Fern Trail then took the Mt. Creston Trail all the way to the great lookout at the end and back down the balancing Rock Trail. Started at 9:30am and were at the Balancing Rock Trailhead at about 2pm. There is good water available on the trail if you have a filter. Bring mosquito spray!
