Nice restaurant with lots of seating. The second floor is quiet and you sit on the floor with seat backs. The service was great and the food arrived quickly.

Been here many times, one of my favorites in Kyoto, a bit pricey and portions are small, but quite a gem for me. There are usual set lunches for a Japanese style restaurant, but it does have obansai sets that is 99% meat free if you have a vegan friend with you. The dashi broth of most Japanese cooking is made from fish, so beware.
I am not a Japanese food connoisseur but I have been here four months, and this was possibly the best udon I've had. I tried the curry too, and that would make me want to come back as well. The second floor had a great view of the canal, and the service was excellent, with adequate English spoken and on the menu. Loved it!
