Many people have heard of Quakers as historical figures much like Pilgrims. But there are Quakers right here in Davis. The Meeting has been here since the 1950's and is alive and growing with families with young children. Many Quakers are active with community organizations having to do with mental illness, immigration, peace and other civic affiars. Central to our Meeting is the traditional Quaker "silent" worship. We sit together in stillness until someone among us is moved to speak. The silence itself is full and enriching. We hardly ever give ourselves the opportunity to just sit and be without thinking. It is an acquired practice but once you get it you'll want to stay with it.
