I have been a member here for many years. Some people spend loads of time here and are very active members. I'm generally a fair weather sailor but we always have a great time here. The setting and scenery are excellent. Sailing is not an expensive pastime and SSC is an excellent place to engage with it.

This is a brilliant friendly sailing club. Become part if a family. Easy access and plenty of young sailors. Good mix of men and women and ages. Has a vibrant ailability group every Wednesday. Regular training groups for new members.
Swarkestone Sailing Club is located on the south shore of Swarkestone lake (a disused gravel pit) It is approached from Derby and the A50 along the A514. Pass through the village of Swarkestone, just after the Crewe and Harpur pub restaurant, is the bridge over the river Trent. Immediately afterwards turn right into Ingleby Lane. The entrance to Swarkestone Sailing Club is on the left after about 200 metres. (postcode is DE73 7HW). The drive up to the club is about 1 kilometre long, and runs between the lake and Swarkestone Causeway, a medieval stone causeway which joins the villages of Swarkestone and Stanton by Bridge, and runs the entire width of the flood plain of the river Trent. Swarkestone Sailing Club has ample car parking, and caravan/motorhome pitches for visiting sailors, along with excellent camping facilities. For boats there are several slipways and pontoons for mooring. Unlike reservoir based sailing clubs, the level of the water at Swarkestone is very stable, with differences between drought and full being about 1 metre. This means that launching ramps can be particularly short and comparatively little effort is required to launch and recover boats. Consequently Swarkestone is particularly popular with families, disabled, and more mature dinghy sailors. It is a very successful RYA training centre, running many courses for youth and adult sailing.
