had a lot of different stones. not much information about the process of how they are made, or how they get cut. Just shelves of stones and the names. but a lot of different types. all the information is in German. overall was fun to wall through.

What a wonderful place, and an absolute treasure! (both literally and figuratively!) My family and I are visiting family in Hesse, and decided to make a day trip to see the famed gem country in Idar-Oberstein. Unfortunately, many of the shops were closed as this is the off season, however there was more than enough to fill our day. And this museum was an absolute highlight. Anyone in the area should make an effort to visit here and enjoy the enormous and stunning collection of minerals and gems! Very well worth the trip!

Just a plain lovely exhibition of various precious stones. Could do with a bit more background information to the stones though.

The museum shows a large collection of minerals found all over the world. It does not explain much about how they were formed, but it is defenetly worth it to see how many types there are and what has been done with them over the years.
