There is a reason why there is always a queue at DS and Fen, arguably the most popular stalls at Spitalfields Market. They are so consistently high in standard, and despite the queue the wait isn’t long (and if it is unusually long, I can promise it’s worth it). Never tried anything that has disappointed, only wish I lived closer!

Very disappointed to the Flaky pancake 葱油餅. I bought it with pork dumplings on 14/11, lunch hour (quite busy and long queue). Dumplings were fine. However, the pancake was obviously overcooked! It had no layers, spring onions inside should be fried and green but not BLACK like the photos I took. The texture was so hard, it should not be like this and this cost me 4.5 for a piece of dark, hard pancake! I will never order this item from them again.
We loved Fen (sister store right next to Dumpling Shack) but we were so disappointed with Dumpling Shack. We got the Dan dan noodles, pan fried soup dumplings, and shrimp won ton noodles. The noodles were so bland that we ended up not eating them. The sauce itself was decent but none of the flavors in any of the dishes permeated. I'm giving it 2 stars because at least the shrimp in the wontons had a nice texture.
We visited the South Quays branch today. Lovely ambience. Very pretty place. We ordered their Spicy Beef Belt Noodles at 8. We thought that was reasonable. We also tried their Pan Fried Pork Soup Dumplings (2 pieces) which came as a set with the noodles for an additional 2. Overall great authentic chinese food. We will come back from time to time.
Dumplings were very tasty, but the soup itself & the noodles were bland. 15 for a scallion pancake & shrimp dumpling soup with noodles - felt like a bit of a rip off. But I'd go back & just buy the dumplings!
