Just a memorial stone on a road innthe middle of nowhere but its a lovely tribute to people accused of witchcraft & devil worship .

We have much to remember and not to forget from our past. The midwives, healers, teachers and targeted women of the past were persecuted as witches. Our society has not yet moved away from persecuting individuals on the edge of our world view.
Between 1560 and 1700 across Scotland, and in East Lothian in particular, witch hunting developed into a hysterical frenzy. In the tiny parish of Spott alone, the presbytery were responsible for the barbaric killing of six women and two men. This madness was persistent. As late as 1698 Marion Lillie, the "Ringwoodie Witch", was condemned to suffer death at the village stake, and the site is now marked by this stone. Here you can pay your respects to the innocent victims.
