The sign is intriguing. “ Home of the best water on earth” I had to try it and I will admit the water it’s pretty great! I even bottled up some of it for the drive home.

One fountain part was broken when I went but water was good
I happened upon Dunsmuir en route to hike Lassen. I giggled when I passed this fountain's bold claim of The World's Best Water. Having discovered this little village also has some of the friendliest inhabitants I've ever met, it asked if the claims were true. The locals corroborated the claim: their water comes from a local spring; the town enters an annual competition and routinely earns top marks. Coincidentally, my CamelBak needed filling, having last been recharged in Arcata where I had discovered a whole shop dedicated to selling water. I grew up near Tahoe and now live in San Francisco: both places renowned for their water quality. I recognize quality water when I taste it. I've just come off the mountain, and let me tell you: this is fantastic water. Every hit I took off my CamelBak put a smile on my face. It's crisp; it's refreshing; it's fresh. Dunsmuir: you've done it! It's also free. A water fountain is probably one of the lowest-stakes offerings ever rated on Maps. You don't have a lot to lose with a water fountain, but you could miss out: you could be missing out on the world's best water. Don't be that person. Come to Dunsmuir - leave right now - and taste the aetherial waters bellowing from this fountain. (Pro-tip: there's a spigot on the back of the fountain that makes for very fast filling.)
