BELMAL is a malletier label that comprises a series of activities in the field of antique travel trunks, equipment, and luggage items, and, in bespoke trunks made on special order. The made to measure BELMAL trunks can be used for travelling, or otherwise for home decoration, or in fashion shows and exhibitions. Antique items of the BELMAL museum-collection, as well as new trunks, are also supplied to the movie industry. For the bespoke commissions the BELMAL masterpieces are made one by one, by hand, and by applying the traditions of the past centuries. The manufacture blends top-level craftsmanship with art academy techniques, and uses natural materials, in an environment-friendly manufacturing process. At Belmal Malletier only a very limited number of masterpieces are manufactured each year, on special order, or for presentation to special customers and collectors around the world. Each of the BELMAL malletier productions is made in the vintage atelier situated in an 18th century lodge in the south of Belgium (Ardennes region). At Belmal the factors of tradition, innovation, history, ecology, and sustainability are all blended into one, thus forming a true alloy. The renowned BELMAL RESTORATION workshop of antique luggage is also located in the Belgian Ardennes, near Durbuy where the 'Malles De Voyage' expo gallery is situated. The revenue generated by the Belmal Malletier masterpieces supports three other activities: the ECOLE DES MALLETIERS Nicolas Gilbert of Belgium and Jean Paré of France; the development of the BELMAL MUSEUM-COLLECTION of vintage and antique trunks and luggage, and the BELMAL ARCHIVES of trunkmakers history worldwide. The ECOLE DES MALLETIERS, a Belmal initiative, presents specialised programmes and courses in the malletier profession, including the design and manufacture of new items, the restoration of antique luggage, the history of travel, and the related trade, industry, and artisan entrepreneurship components.
