I had an appointment in this office today, and I will never return. In the small waiting area a man sat down. He was coughing and took off his mask, fanning it. Then he put it on but did not cover his nose. As someone who has an auto-immune issue and as someone who has recently lost a loved one to COVID I was very uncomfortable. The receptionist had her mask on her chin, but at least there was a partition. When no one else said anything, I said to the man \I understand that it's uncomfortable but could you please wear your mask over your nose.\ He replied that he had tissue in one nostril so he didn't have to. I reminded him that his other nostril didn't have tissue in it and that not covering his nose isn't protecting him or others. He covered up. During my appointment with Dr. Dobleman, he ripped off his mask stating that it was driving him nuts. He also shook my hand. I had explained to him that I recently lost someone to COVID and he responded that that was a rare instance. I was shaken by this encounter. I didn't think that I'd have to explain risk prevention of an infectious disease to a doctor. When I got home, I called the office to explain my discomfort to them and that I no longer wished to be a patient. The receptionist replied that I shouldn't have \been so rude\ to their patient (by asking him to wear his mask) and then proceeded to tell me that patient's diagnosis (pretty sure that's a HIPPA violation). She also tried to dismiss the death of my friend by asking \well did they have an underlying condition?\ I am in shock that this is how a medical office is responding to VALID concerns around COVID 19. I am reporting this office to the county and state health departments.
