My mother has been a resident at Sachem Center, in the Joppa unit for almost 5 years. Alzheimer's is a debilitating disease that affects not only the patient but the caregivers. I have been so fortunate to have the most caring and compassionate support group at Sachem, caring for my Mom. When I could no longer care for my Mom at home, Sachem welcomed and treated both my Mom and I as family. The nurses, nurses aids, activities staff, executive staff, clergy and building operations, have been outstanding. Their kindness towards my Mom and I has been so appreciated. They taught me how to grow with my Mom's disease, and how to deal with the physical and mental changes that my Mom has experienced. I would visit my Mom in the evening after work, and if I was ever too tired or felt overwhelmed there was always someone who would make me feel better. Whether it was one of the staff members or one of the residents, who became like family. If I ever have a question or any issues that I am concerned about, they are addressed right away. My Mom is safe, clean, engaged, and loved. It's been a year this week, since I was able to visit my Mom after work and on the weekends, pre-COVID. I've been very lucky that the activities staff have used FaceTime so I have been able to communicate with my Mom during the pandemic, and when conditions would allow, I was able to visit in-person using Sachem's strict protocols. Sachem isn't a fancy brand new facility with fancy bells and whistles, but, I would trade a fancy new facility in a heartbeat, for the solid, experienced, caring staff that have become like family to me. I am very grateful for Sachem.

I had my great aunt here as a long term resident. The care of the staff was exceptional. I would recommend to anyone looking for short term rehab or long term care. The nurses, residents, and therapy staff when out of their way to meet and exceed her needs.

Specialists are awesome/ PT/OT etc Nursing care could be much better. Food is absolutely horrible. They have no microwave or stove to heat anything. My mother was miserable there. 3 stars for the Specialists.

To the staff at Sachem Center for Health & Rehab: Thanks to all of you who provided excellent care to our mother and grandmother Lena McNeil. My husband and I felt compelled to write this letter to let all those that supported Lena know how much it meant to us. The level of care of superb and we truly feel she could not have been in a better facility. We want to especially thank the personnel in both the Elmwood and Sachem sections of the nursing home. She received care and compassion from all that attended to her needs. We also want to commend the activities group who provided her social stimulation. Lena herself, often talked about how well she was treated and how hard caretakers worked. We know she enjoyed her time at Sachem. It is due to those who were very thoughtful and generous in carrying out their duties. She so appreciated that gracious kindness that was provided during her stay. Lena has shown so many how to live with joy, dignity and love. We will miss her forever. Thanks to all, The Family of Lena
