Excellent day spent being shown around this wonderful museum. Even for my age I realize how little I knew about the vessels and their part played in the last two world wars Very informative and the staff were so friendly and helpful.

Arrived with 30 minutes to spare, was greeted by a very rude woman asking "what are you doing?" Explained, regardless of how obvious it was. Was then told that they were closing soon in a very condescending tone. I'd be surprised if the lady had had a conversation before, let alone spoke to customers.

Although living quite close to the museum for 20 years had never thought of visiting and only ventured in to escape a bitting wind. What an amazing place, the three halls were filled with model's of wartime life in East Cowes, models of ships and aeroplanes. Plenty of archive photographs and video displays of times gone bye. You could spend a good couple of hours viewing the material, and this is just part of the museum.on the other side of the river Medina in West Cowes is the section housing the full size boats, from yachts to racing power boats and many other marine craft, but that visit will be for another day. The staff were so friendly and very knowledgeable of their artifacts,as well as brewing a perfect cup of tea in the small on-site cafe. This is the perfect place to visit if in the Cowes area, I shall certainly be returning. A truly delightful experience.

I was fortunate enough to have seen all of the classic boats on a previous visit before its partial relocation to the current east Cowes venue, for those who thought the missing classic craft was a let-down, I would urge patience, it will be worth waiting for. It is a shame some folk could not see the value of what is there already. Even so, the current museum in east Cowes located by the Red Funnel ferry is well presented, the volunteer curates are very well informed and recite fascinating historical facts and chronicles the history of boating, Thorneycroft, Saunders Rowe and the pioneering and development boating world related to the Isle of Wight. It certainly is even without the boat exhibits a masterpiece of artefacts arranged to tell of real historic events. It has been very hard work by passionate volunteers. I for one applaud their efforts and I know that once venue issues are sorted, there is every intention to reintroduce the classic craft too. Well done, James Butler
