Absolutely excellent. My girlfriend and I went for the Lunch set menu, very tasty. The only negative was that the portion sizes were a bit small. I will be going back.

I really like Mark Greenaway's higher end restaurant and had high hopes for Bistro Moderne. And while the food was still decent, the service was shockingly bad. Our bill at the end of the meal was steep for the quality of the meal and the rude nature of some of the staff ruined a night we'd been looking forward to for ages.

I'll have to review in two parts because so far I have only been for brunch! But wowee my Eggs Benedict ( of sorts) was yummy! Mark Greenaway was in the kitchen and my gluten free diet was taken into account. The Bf had bacon and waffles, looked and tasted equally yum! The inside decor definitely leaned more towards evening dining, it felt far too grown up for breakfast. As I said i must go back...

The Bistro Moderne is the place to enjoy a gourmet lunch in Edinburgh. Great value for money, my two experiences of the place were great. The restaurant offers simple bistro dishes prepared with a Mark Greenaway touch. The staff is lovely and the place a Scottish bistro chic. Only surprise here, is that Mark Greenaway is well known for his desserts. The desserts I had were good but not unforgettable. Tip: Book your table if you don't want to eat at the bar! ;)

A modern, Scottish take on French bistro dining - a more pared-back interpretation of the chef's signature restaurant dishes in a cosy, relaxed setting. Delicious cocktails, and I was especially impressed by the beetroot carpaccio with goat's curd & pine nuts.

We'd been talking about going to Bistro Moderne for ages and finally booked in for Sunday lunch, tempted by the 25 roast. The restaurant is bright with a lively atmosphere and we were seated at a table in the back corner (the recessed booth next to the kitchen looked cosy - noted for a future visit!). We ordered starters and shared the roast chicken as a main. All of the food was excellent; my beef carpaccio starter with delicate and well seasoned and my wife's pea soup was fresh and smooth. The chicken was served with massive yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and gravy. All of the component parts were delicious and we polished off the lot. We opted for dessert as well with me choosing carrot cake and her having the chocolate mint tart; both were lovely and didn't last long. Overall a great lunch and we'll definitely be back to try some other parts of the menu.

This place is run by Mark Greenaway, a brilliant local chef. He takes the kitchen at the weekend and so we were treated to a luxurious experience. I was here for brunch with two special ladies, my gf and my mum and we were treated to fantastic food and wonderful service. The building has a refined and upmarket character which makes it a lovely place to enjoy some fine dinning. If you are in later in the day you should sample their extensive wine selection and if you need any tips then ask for Loic who knows his stuff and will give you top quality suggestions. There are lots of lovely places to eat in Stockbridge but this is my favourite.

A very last minute decision to eat out led to trying out Mark Greenaway's Bistro in Stockbridge. The outdoor seating was tempting but we decided to eat inside where surprisingly for a restaurant with such a good reputation it was particularly quiet. The waiter was really attentive and seemed to know his way around the menu and was happy to give us enough time to make up our minds on the menu. There is a selection of seven or eight main courses with one vegetarian option and then a mix of meat or fish - it was surprising that there wasn't a beef option in the mains although with the warm weather a light dish was more preferable. As we only ordered main courses the waiter did warn us that we would have to wait about twenty minutes and were provided with bread to pass the time. The meal itself did arrive in the expected time, its always good when a restaurant can live up to its promises, and the presentation is what you would expect from the Greenaway brand. This is definitely a place to return in the future, the two roasts for 25 on a Sunday looks a particularly tempting option.
