Went for a birthday celebration lunch out with friends and what an experience we had. All Japanese restaurants focused on non-Japanese people are very similar, specially the food menu, but this time it was different and by far the best I've ever tried. There was a twist in every dish we tried and we even went for an out of comfort zone recipes I can't even explain. The food was outstanding and the vibes in general very warm. Prices perhaps are a bit higher than usual but worth to try. The service was a bit slow and poor. The 5 people table next to us were getting served from before we started ordering until we left the restaurant, and they only had 5 mains and a few starters. There were also a few wrong orders during lunch time in several tables including our table, but everything was fixed in a minute. When the waitress was tidying up our table for payment, she poured soy sauce left over all over my hands and wrists and apart from a little sorry she didn't bother to bring napkins at all. I had to go myself to the bathroom and wash the mess up. Food quality, flavor and presentation are my bullet points when making a review and that's why I give this place 5 stars, but easily deserves 3-4.

This restaurant is unbelievably affordable! The food is great too!
Food came very fast, maybe the only good point about it... Or not. The chicken curry that was ordered was undercooked and mushy, the prawn maki rolls we had were rotted and smelt horrific the moment we opened it and the teriyaki salmon was grey, almost completely on the bottom looking disgusting and unappetising. Heard so many good reviews and but this was not a good experience, not sure if this was just a one off mistake they've made but they messed up badly not just with one bit but the majority of our order. Red rice beer was great tho would drink again 10/10 rotten prawns
Harajuku Kitchen eschews a traditional Japanese appearance yet serves authentic, incredibly well-prepared food. An extensive menu demonstrates the chef's skill. Although it's at a premium price, don't miss this spot.
Absolutely love going to the harajuku kitchen! The team are so great. Can’t wait to return post lockdown
Although I love Japanese food, I've found that what is available around Edinburgh, particularly for vegetarians, is pretty much the same from one restaurant to another. It's perfectly nice food, but I'm a bit bored. And I've always wondered why nobody seems to want to produce a lovely vegetarian dragon roll. I've just had a delicious takeaway delivered from Harajuku Kitchen, who DO offer a lovely and very beautiful vegetarian dragon roll. I also ordered one of my favourite dishes, the miso and sesame aubergine, which wasn't too sweet, just delicious, as well as around half of all their vegetarian offerings, and everything was lovingly prepared and packaged, extremely tasty, and although they are slightly on the pricey side, the portions are very generous. And the delivery arrived in a flash. Very highly recommended!
The sushi and gyoza here was delicious! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cute sushi restaurant. The staff were kind. I would have given it a 5/5 if there was some music playing in the background. But overall we were very impressed. Highly recommend.
Lovely place, simple, but beautifully decorated and romantic. I really felt like I was in Japan. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and I appreciate the fact that they have a separate vegan and a gluten free menu with many options to choose from unlike other places where the selection is very limited. The staff was really kind, friendly and considerate about dietary preferences. We would definitely visit again!
