Call me weird but I find cemeteries a very calming place to go. During these weird lockdowns times I've been visiting the cemeteries in Edinburgh and this one is well maintained, with old tombstones. Very peaceful

Interesting place with exciting stories that needs to be told from the past
Original went there in the dark with a guided Monsters and Myths tour of Edinburgh but I returned in the daylight to have a better look. I find cemeteries very calming, the sun was shining and the air was crisp. This cemetery contains the graves of prominent Atheist David Hume and a well known statue of President Abraham Lincoln. If it's a clear day this burial ground is a small but interesting treat.
The Old Calton Burial Ground is a graveyard on Waterloo Street and most likely you'll be walking past this on the way to climbing Calton Hil. The burial ground is the resting place of several notable Scots, including philosopher David Hume, John Playfair, plus a whole bunch of people even fellow Scots have never heard of. Apart from this, the cemetery is also the site of the Political Martyrs' Monument, Scotland's American Civil War Memorial and the statue of AbrahamLincoln. Worth a small detour if you're in the city and want to visit the hill.
Really enjoyed the history behind it all, its interesting to explore and actually really enjoyed it, the old Carlton cemetery is known for some of the famous people that were buried there such as philosopher David Hume, scientist John Playfair, rival publishers William Blackwood and Archibald Constable, and clergyman Dr Robert Candlish. I would really recommend for anyone to go see the historical place!
A great visit, very interesting
