Paskwamostos created by Joe Fafard Stainless steel, 1999 Edmonton Convention Centre This unique sculpture was donated by the family of JR Shaw, Executive Chairman of Shaw Communications Inc., to the City of Edmonton on February 16, 1999. Paskwamostos is Cree for bison. Joe Fafard is an internationally-acclaimed sculptor and printmaker from Saskatchewan, who is best known for his artistic study of cattle, bison, horses and people. “I’ve been a fan of Joe Fafard for as long as I can remember and recognize his Canadian and international reputation,” stated Shaw. “The bison is an animal of strength and symbolism. It represents food, clothing and shelter for our native western Canadian people.” Paskwamostos is 183 centimeters wide by 366 centimeters high and 122 centimeters deep. The sculpture is made of plasma-cut stainless steel with a power coating and is concave from one side and convex from the other.
