A very peaceful place with the remains of the castle surrounded by amazing views. Castle is situated approx 1.5km from the car park and the walk there is mainly downhill on a well maintained path. The return journey is a bit more of an effort back up the hill.

The true value of a ruin is in its ability to allow us to move across time. They are attractive because they're not just things that have survived, but they also point towards something. So if you want to experience it, don't hesitate.

This has become one of our favourite walks. The gorge is simply beautiful and the walk there and back is varied and just enough to get the blood flowing. Great with a dog (watch out for livestock in field).

Superb remote Scottish 16th castle ruins. Tranquil views around and fairytale mood.

Plenty parking space and the walk around the ruins of the castle and grounds is fantastic. One of my favourite walks with my dogs.

Owned by the Gordons and built in the early 16th century this ruined L-shaped castle is most famous for its family connection to the famous 18th century poet Lord Byron. The castle has lain empty since 1791 when the last owner Lord Haddo' son was killed in a riding accident near the castle. Situated on top of a steep bluff above the Ythan whats left is now a shell and there is no access to the interior.

I took the long route with my friends to visit Gight Castle. We parked in Methlick and followed the woodland path. The distance was ten miles in total but well worth the effort. You will need good sturdy footwear and waterproofs just in case the weather changes. The castle is ruinous and not safe to get too close but you get an excellent view. I am delighted to have made the effort to come and enjoy the walk with the added bonus of an historic ruin on route.

Fantastic place to go for a walk. It's not a long walk but is hilly with great views. Dog and grand kids love it but appropriate footwear is a must. Park in the carpark for a short walk to the ruins of Gight Castle. Just passed the castle is a gate that leads to a circular walk where you walk in the woods in the hills down to waling alongside the river Ythan Recommend and enjoy.
