Good for kids
Lovely tranquil place for a picnic lunch. Paths delightful but very muddy in winter. Need Wellington boots. Western approach on Thorney Island the least muddy but still needs boots.

Thornham point has a wonderful view, and it is definitely worth your time to visit. You can make the trip into a walk, I started from Prinsted and then turned right. This leads you along a lovely path right next to the sea.
Had a fleeting visit to Thornham Point. Looks beautiful. Last visited in the 70's when military aircraft were based here. So different now. We intend to return for the trek around the island, I can't wait.
Great places for birds
I like it. Even though, MOD signs are all a long the way as you walk, but... Really nice long walk you can have and enjoy being close to nature.
An area of grassland and saltmarsh, very good for birds. This is as far south as you can go on the Thorney Island coastal footpath before meeting the perimeter fence and gate of the army base. As at September 2017 the intercom on this has been out of action for some time, so you have to phone the guard house to let you through. The number is on the gate. The reserve has a bridge which has been condemned, so a circular walk is not legal. There are information boards.
