See my other reviews (much more on Yelp with better choices for LA Fitness locations). I have been a member for decades (when a lot of LA Fitness locations were Ballys ' Total Fintess. The merge brought about changes (obviously) and some were good and many were not. Let me be clear, LA Fitness is cheap. They closed steam rooms in most of the facilities, they made smaller saunas in remodels except for West LA (no idea why there). They shortened open hours (this location is 11pm on weekdays (except Fri and earlier on weekends)). The Encino facility has gone downhill at least 50% since the merger with Ballys (where I was an original member). I was grandfathered' in when they were bought out. I am beyond annoyed at the following: the old school stairmasters (not the moving stairs and not elliptical) freeze after just one session (around 30 min). I go 60 so, I have to go to another machine. Meanwhile, the other machines blow so, thanks for that. These same machines work way more efficiently (they are old school) at the Miracle Mile location. The shower curtains (used to be doors) are super cheap and see through which is just plain nasty! The lockers are an abomination (see the attached photos for a sample). I ask: how hard is it to put some dang hinges on the freakin' doors of the lockers?! There is only one electrical outlet that works in the locker room to dry your hair so, good thing I go at night and it is nearly empty (only really good thing about a visit here). This is shameful! Additionally, the steam room was kept (probably because they do not have a sauna). The steam used to go constant but now, it barely produces any steam and cycles run around 12 minutes. This is poor mans' (womans) steam.. There are way better locations so, this is a very rare visit when I go.

Old and dirty gym that's essentially in the basement- bad lighting, two TVs that are both locked on the same channel, and seriously bad equipment- rusty, creaky, and a decade outdated. The staff is nice, and the only benefit of coming here is the location and they it's usually empty- but it's really small too so it fills up quickly
This gym is terrible to say the least. When something is out of order, it'll be out of order for months and months. The front desk is always busy on the phone hounding people for payments yet they won't take the money and time to fix the equipment. On one occasion it was 90 degrees outside and they didn't have the fans working ! We had to wait 3 days before they could get it fixed! I've been to 5 different LAfitness and they've all been decent but this one is just down right terrible.
It's a shame, and I think it starts at the top, very little pride in this facility. No shower curtains, no paper towels. Things break regularly and stay broke indefinitely "because they can't get the parts" Facility is dirty but convenient.
If you like someone else's sweat on the machine this place is for you towel policy does not exist. The patrons are pigs and can't figure out how to put weights away.
The worst gym I've been to. And I've been to many LA Fitness locations. Staff was rude! Machines are old! I was nervous to get on the stairmaster. And NO POOL! Only good thing was parking.
Got a workout routine? Hate to wait for a bench or a machine? Find yourself walking around the gym finding an open bench or machine as you did outside in the parking lot looking for an open space to park. Then come to this gym. It's true there are some old equipment and definitely smells but it has all you need to get a good sweat and workout.
Very dirty everywhere.toilets, lockers, showers, machines, even sputum in the drinking fountains. And don't even think about taking a yoga class here. None of then is on time. And always been cancelled.
