Booked a table by phone this week for a 51st Birthday on Sunday. I called and confirmed again on Saturday. On arrival was told they only take cash (very odd these days) and advised that I should have been told. Nothing had been mentioned on either phone call and no mention on website. Few people these days book a table for 7 and expect to pay cash. Was advised that one of us could drive to Epping and visit a cashpoint. So, we all drove to Epping and had a fab meal there instead.

Tiny traditional pub in the middle of nowhere. Always friendly with good ale. Often get the feel the bar area is completely taken over by owner/family, never quite sure who is a customer and who is staff as people wander in and out from behind the bar, drinking one minute, serving the next, a little unnerving if you're unfamiliar with the set-up. It's not exactly off putting, doesn't stop me going, but it comes across as a little unprofessional because sometimes I feel like I'm intruding in their private party.

Great pub, perfect location on a quiet country road. Great ales and good traditional pub grub. Definitely worth a visit
