There has been a church dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin in Ewell on this site since 1239. Unfortunately the Norman church had to be demolished due to being structurally unsafe and on a whim by the rector and who was the Lord of the Manor at the time who disliked the parishioners passing by his home! The remains of a 15th century bell tower still exists from the earlier time and can be seen in the cemetery. What you see today is a church that was built in 1848. Sadly unable to gain access to the church due to being locked.
Oh what an absolute joy. What an incredible place. Just the most perfect building I have ever encountered. The construction is of bricks or stone or wood or something else or a combination of some of all of these. Breathtaking.
Very Welcoming
Visited late morning on a Monday, and found it locked. This is a very bog-standard off-the-shelf Victorian Gothic job, although the east window is impressive. Rebuilt on a different site, don't miss the tower of the old church which is rather hidden away to the south.
Love Steve Mary's and members of the congregation. A group of people who are welcoming and want to doo well. Been gong here 4 years and married here some 3 years ago nearly. Russell the vicar is a really good person. High C of E church however everyone is down to earth. If you are thinking of going to church give it a try. 0930 Sunday we go why we can which is most Sundays.
