Calle Fuente de María Gil, 4-6,
N/A
. This attractive little chapel is near the Parque del Calvario. The easiest way to get to it is up the tree-lined road directly next to the right-hand edge of the park. It's certainly going UP, by the way - it's a steepish hill . . . It's called the Calle Fuente de María Gil, and you will notice on the left-hand side of the street some small white pillars, about the size and shape of an old-fashioned pillarbox. These are the Stations of the Cross for when pilgrims come up here en route to the chapel. The building that you see now is not the original. That was built in the early years of the 19th century, but was, sadly, destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. Re-built at the end of the war, it was renovated early this century. It is kept locked, but you can peer through the iron grille to see the inside. It is believed that the original structure was used to house lepers and others with frightening diseases, as it was at that time well outside the town, only becoming a religious building some 50 years after its construction. .

Muy bonita. Buen lugar. Cercano. Con plaza anexa y buenas vistas. Pegas: horario de apertura muy escaso.
La Ermita del Calvario es para mí algo especial de toda la vida.
Un lugar entrañable
