About a month ago I contacted my Insurance agent and found out they never received my new home insurance payment. The insurance agent attempted to contact the escrow company multiple times and let me know he was not successful getting through. I also tried a couple of times to contact anyone at this company. To date the only contact I have received is a voicemail in response to a complaint I filed with escrow regulators. Finally a VP at my lenders got through to them. Supposedly the check was sent but never cleared. The thing I find concerning is that they did not contact me or my insurance agent regarding the check not clearing and apparently did not take the needed steps to stop payment and reissue until my lender contacted them almost two months after closing. This should be something that is observed and handled as part of the escrow account management (not two months after the fact). In essence I have had no insurance for the past two months due to the apparent negligence of this company. It is even more concerning given the Southern California lilac fire that was around 15 miles north of my new home (evacuation zone 12 miles away). Regardless of what happened with the check in the mail or on the receiving end, it is my understanding that an escrow companies responsibility includes transmitting funds, keep track of the funds clearing the escrow account(or nor clearing) and ensure funds reach their destination in a timely manor. Update- I just received confirmation from my insurance agent this afternoon that the check was received and my insurance is being processed (2 months and 10 days after closing).
