This is an ornate grotto, you're not able to go inside. Built sometime between 1715 and 1727. It's positioned on the edge of the lake just above water level. The main footpath leads you around and over the top of the grotto as you walk around the lake. It's not much to look at these days. It was a little overgrown the last time we visited but it adds a little bit of character to the park.

Lovely in autumn, although strange that you can only visit café if you leave the park.

This enchanting and enigmatic 18th century grotto at Claremont Landscape Garden nestles amongst the reeds in the southern corner of the lake, well away from the general crowds near the entrance and the amphitheatre. More recently it has been restored to its former glory and now really captures the imagination with its magical, almost mystical air.
