Ladies and gentlemen, you need to come here!! One particularly fine Sunday in May, I took an early morning train from Milan to Varenna, on the shores of Lake Como. From the train station, I began hiking south - southeast, following a trail 8-9km up a hill called \Monte Fopp.\ I reached the summit around 11am, and on the strong recommendations of a few locals that I met along the hike, I decided to continue another 10 minutes down into the village of Ortanella to have lunch at this \primo ristorante.\ The outdoor seating is spectacular, looking out over a lush green valley with views of nearby Esino. This is a place to relax, take your time, and simply enjoy a couple hours of serenity. Don't be in a hurry. First came an aperitif of fresh juice, prosciutto and bread, then the hostess presented me with 3-4 options for both a first course and a main course. For first course, I had a gorgonzola cheese gnocchi that was delicious. Then my main course of choice was a thin slice of beef with a wine-based sauce, served with Polenta, which is a local starch / cornmeal dish. Finished off the meal with some chocolate ice cream and limoncello - all for under 25 Euro!! No regrets. Grazie!! Molto bene.

The owners are very good and co-operative. Even though we arrived at the place at odd time, they made the food. The food was typical mountain region variety with fantastic cheese and burro. The location is also having mind blowing scenery.
Noodles and Gnocchi where tepid and not tasty! The cream cheese was somehow warm! The hard cheese had two sides one lighter side and an old rancid side! It was served the lighter side up to not show the rancid side.
Great place.
