Founded in 2012, Liters of Learning is a 501(c)3 registered nonprofit organization in the US. This 100% volunteer-run organization builds schools in some of the most rural villages surrounding Esquipulas, Guatemala using recycled materials called "eco-bricks". What is an eco-brick? In the simplest terms, it is a 20-ounce plastic bottle filled with many pounds of inorganic trash collected from communities surrounding the school locations. The children, their families and the entire community come together to pack tens of thousands of eco-bricks for their school. Liters of Learning was co-founded by Treva and Riley Wynn (of Ohio, US) after the couple spent years working in Guatemala as English teachers. Seeing the heartbreaking difference in education between the rural villages and more populated areas, the Wynn's started this organization to give back to the wonderful country that welcomed them. 100% volunteer-run, ensures that 100% of donations go directly to the projects.
