We have had an awesome experience with American Discovery ! Two summers in a row we hosted a French teacher/chaperone. It was so fun for both my husband and I and our children. We included our guest in the hiking, camping, and other fun summer events and she loved it all ! We built a great friendship and will be visiting her in France this summer !! American Discovery was well-organized. I highly recommend this experience.

This is not a travel agency. It is a company that brings students from Spain and France to do homestays with American families in the Willamette Valley and other parts of Oregon and California.

No procedures in place for when things go wrong with international students. We (the host family) were put in the position of having to spend four hours on the phone with Iceland Air, both in Reykjavik and Portland, phone calls with the student's very unhappy father in France, in order to solve a lost luggage problem that American Discovery evidently knew nothing about. This was after the bag was missing for FIVE DAYS! Five days! Evidently, their chaperone filed an initial claim, didn't tell anyone at the office, and disappeared into another group in Oregon, and was unreachable by us. We had no paperwork. No claim number. Nothing but a baggage claim check and a his airline ticket. We had to start from scratch, calling and calling and tweeting, trying to find this poor boy's suitcase after FIVE DAYS. We will NEVER HOST FOR THIS COMPANY AGAIN. They have poor communication among their representatives. Oh, and the host families have to evidently solve all the problems that THEY are getting paid to handle.
