Vectren USED to have problems, but has worked hard to eliminate most of them in the last year or two. All utility companies get a bad rap -- especially when they have little or no competition. But this place is solid now, has good business sense, and has always had good foresight. It takes a lot of time & work (plus humility) to admit problems and clear up issues. They've done well at it -- and it shows. (Bad perceptions are slow to fade, but they're definitely on the good side of things now, and they still seem to be improving.)
Hung up on by a rep when I tried to make a customer service suggestion, then told there was no record of my call when I called back to speak with a manager. Manager insisted that they are always looking for ways to improve customer service, yet didn't note my concerns, made excuses for poor service, blamed me for not following Vectren's poor procedures, and basically made clear he wasn't interested in my experience through phrases like, "I understand your concern, BUT..." - worst utility company ever, and service hasn't even started yet (I'll be without hot water and heat for another week, until their next scheduled turn-on date, and I'll have to miss another day of work to try to meet them). I hate this company.
*******WARNING !!! VECTREN IS TRYING TO FORCE CUSTOMERS INTO SIGNING UP FOR "AUTO PAY". Several weeks ago , I changed my email/login info, they sent me an email notifying me of my bill to the new email address. When I tried to log in to my account to pay my bill, IT SAID WE DO NOT HAVE THE EMAIL. I tried to log on via the email vectren sent and through their web page to no avail. After speaking with their uneducated reps. I finally got on. But all of my banking info had been erased. THESE "people" are making it harder and harder to log on to your account in order to have you sign up for AUTO PAY. This scam seems to be circulating through many companies I deal with.
