We were still driving round Istanbul in heavy traffic picking up more fares when we should have been well on the way to the IST airport. The manager had assured us that the service would take “Maximum 1 hour” this was never going to be the case after mid day prayers on an Istanbul Weekend. You pay a service for its local knowledge and clearly the focus of Youmei is on selling seats rather than getting people to the airport in time for their flight. The minibus was already overloaded and the driver was still attempting pickups at various hotels by abandoning it in traffic jams and walking to his rendezvous point. Many of these were No Shows probably because the people had realised the service they had booked and paid for wasn’t going to get them there in time and had used alternative transport. Finally he missed the drop off for us at the domestic terminal and we had to go through security at the international terminal losing more time and then run to the Domestic departures to arrive as our flight was boarding. Only the help given to us in letting us push into security queues by our fellow Youmei passengers and the efficiency and determination of Turkish Airlines to get us on our flight way past check in saved the day. Stupid greed for 5 Euro fares could have ruined our holiday it is good that we can make Youmei accountable here.
