Prince's Mosque\ is 16th-century Ottoman imperial mosque which architect Mimar Sinan built it on the third hill of Istanbul. It was commissioned by Süleyman the Magnificent as a memorial to his son Şehzade Mehmed who died in 1543. It is a mosque that very simple but equally impressive. It is in the middle of the city chaos but when you step in you feel the calmness.

The Sehzade Mosque is a 16th century Ottoman imperial mosque located in the district of Fatih, on the third hill of Istanbul, Turkey. It was commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent as a memorial to his son Sehzade Mehmed who died in 1543. It is sometimes referred to as the “Prince’s Mosque” in English.
Beautiful mosque. Build by famouse architect Mimar sinan at 1548 and the mosque is quite good inside.
This mosque complex was erected by Süleyman the Magnificent in memory of his eldest son by Roxelana, Şehzade (Prince) Mehmet, who died of smallpox at the age of 21. The building was Sinan’s first major imperial commission and was completed in 1548. The architect used a delightful decorative style in this mosque before abandoning it in favour of the classical austerity of his later work. The mosque is approached through an elegant porticoed inner courtyard, while the other institutions making up the mosque complex, including a medrese, are enclosed within an outer courtyard. The mosque’s interior is unusual and was something of an experiment: symmetrical, it has a half-dome on all four sides. The three tombs to the rear of the mosque, belonging to Şehzade Mehmet himself and grand viziers İbrahim Paşa and Rüstem Paşa, are the finest in the city. Each has beautiful İznik tiles and original stained glass. That of Şehzade Mehmet also boasts the finest painted dome in Istanbul. On Fridays you may notice a crowd of women flocking to another tomb within the complex, that of Helvacı Baba. This has been done traditionally for over 400 years. Helvacı Baba is said to miraculously cure crippled children, solve any fertility problems and find husbands or accommodation for those who beseech him.
Definitely worth a visit, especially in Ramadan. This Imam had the best recitation I heard during my stay in Turkey.
This is the mosque that I enjoyed the most. You can feel that people come here to pray and it isn't filled by tourists. It's peaceful and quiet.
a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture, at it’s finest. Visit to contemplate, admire & soak in the details, history.
