Disorganized. Bring passport to avoid argument with security. Bring large headphones to silence out the constant harrasment by fake guides and pushy merchants. The island itself great. Must visit
Ferry from Casamance is literally side by side to small ferry to Ile Goree... In spite having arrived 1 hour half before the first ferry to Goree at 7.30 am from Casamance, I lost the small ferry for 5 mins because waiting for the baggage release... Very bad experience, too much time lost.
Fairly easy to get around here and understand what you're doing if you're not from here. Pretty sure we ended up with a tour guide that really wasn't an official tour guide, but we had fun and he was good.
Ferries headed to Gorée are regular and fairly orderly, although costly for folks not residing on the African continent. Depending on the departure and equipment, you may be riding on a proper passenger ferry or you may be on a cargo boat exposed to the elements including rogue waves. As such, it may be wise to ensure that your belongings are packed in plastic bags or are enclosed within a waterproof backpack prior to making the trip out to Gorée. Tour guides will loiter around the ticketing counter attempting to talk tourists into securing their services. Be aware that tourists do not need a guide in order to go to the island. Once the tourism tax is paid upon arrival on the island, travellers are free to move about the island as they wish.
The ferry is quite new - constructed in 2006.
