We really really liked the museum. It is located in the house where Champollion was born, on many floors you discover the history of humans and writing. There is a part of Egypt and egyptology, that we fancied the most. And as a bonus, when you are getting tired of the museum, you finish on the highest floor where you have a great view on the square. Dont forget to take the tiny road juste next to the house to see the huge Rosetta stone made on the ground, and some papyrus in the little park.

Nice museum though a little difficult if you don't read french well as most of the info is text based. There are a few Egyptian artifacts on the ground floor but as you go up the building the exhibits are more and more just consisting of photos on the walls! If your mainly concerned with seeing the large stone reproduction & gardens featured in the advertising, they are view-able for free accessed by going down the passage to the left of the museum building.

It was a bit disappointing, it is not oriented to non-French speaking and to non adults. The topics are disorganized and it is complicated to understand what they try to explain. Personal history of Champollion mixed with general Egyptian history with things related with writing.

Fabulous coffee and food on the square. Busy as they're popular but efficiently served without delays

Much more interesting if you take the guided tour!

An interesting museum dedicated to Champollion the translator of the Rossetta stone. A bit padded out with the theme of world writing systems, but still worth checking out.
