I had gastric sleeve surgery performed with Dr Abkin 3 years ago and today I went to visit with him for my 3 year check up. I have lost a total of 103 pounds since I first went for my initial consultation with Dr Abkin. I no longer take any medications except vitamins as required. Dr Abkin is a wonderful doctor and person. Very caring and patient and listens to your concerns and answers all your questions. He literally has changed my life. I first met Dr. Abkin at a new patient seminar in 2005. Impressed with what I learned, I scheduled an appointment to begin my journey into the world of bariatric surgery. The Doctor was extremely patient, all questions were answered thoroughly, the peace of mind was gained that he was the man for the job. Over the past 15 years Dr Abkin & his staff have been there for me. The services they provide, informational seminars, support groups, follow up, nutritional counseling & even recipes have been life changing. He doesn't operate & send you on your way. Dr. Abkin Changed my life in January 2018. It is not an easy thing to ask for help, especially when it comes to being morbidly obese and thinking you will never be able lose the weight, but I woke up one day realizing if I didn't do something soon my life would end premature. There is a Stigma about having Gastric Surgery that it is the easy way out. I am here to tell you that it is not an easy road, but nothing in life that is worth anything is easy to obtain. There will be sacrifices and tears and anger on the road to better yourself, but in the end, if you are true to yourself, they will all be worth it. When I went to see Dr. Abkin I weighed 390lbs. The the 1st day I stepped into the office I knew I made the right decision in Surgeons. Everyone at this practice is upfront, knowledgeable, caring, and give you all the tools you need to succeed on your Gastric Surgery process. These tools WILL help you succeed and help you get the weight off. Since that day in January 2018 I have lost half my body weight using the dietary guideline provided by the on-staff Nutritionist and incorporating a basic fitness routine that started with walking and has now progressed to running 2-3 times a week. I owe a lot to Dr. Abkin, his Practice, and his entire team. I would have never thought 5 years ago that I would be training for a 1/2 Marathon with an eye on the 2020 NYC Marathon. If you are considering using Dr. Abkin or anyone in his practice for your gastric Surgical needs I will be the first to tell you you are making the right decision.

I have the unique opportunity to see Dr. Abkin work on the surgical side and knew right away he is a great surgeon, I wouldn't recommend anyone else for bariatric surgery. Having a lap band put in by a different surgeon and starting to fail I knew I needed to take the next step. Both my lap band removal and subsequent sleeve couldn't have gone more smoothly, they really take the time to cover the whole process and fully educate their patients before surgery. I'm almost a year out and am so glad I went through the process.
