Mary Gerard

As my mother's only caregiver when she developed Alzheimer's disease and as a registered nurse, I wanted to become involved the Alzheimer's Association so that other families would not have the problems that I encountered when taking care of Mom. I have always been interested in advocacy and policy and the Alzheimer's Association helped me to understand the policy around the disease and how important advocacy is to increasing funding for research and caregiver support. The Association also helped me to advocate more effectively with our congressional delegation. Because of their help, my advocacy and public speaking skills have grown and I am now an Alzheimer's Association Ambassador for Rep Chris Smith and have been asked to speak about my advocacy work at Monmouth University and at the events for the Alzheimer's Walks.

The staff at the chapter is excellent and is always there for you and your family. Also, participate in your local Walk to End Alzheimer's, as all of your donations will help support the research to end this horrible disease.
