The flea markets just outside the gates are just as safe as inside with police officers and licensed travel agents. They can only have the cruise terminal with so many things and agents. Trust your gut and verify your agents credentials, support the locals outside the gate and help their economy locally without the 3rd party taking a cut of the profit. Shop local, buy from the makers, the mom and pops. We had a tour of the island and then shopped the flea market by our terminal. Also family of our driver. They also take credit, and the prices are amazing!!!! Remember cash though cause the local banks can not offer cash advance without your passport and your bank needs to set that up months before travel. Our tour guide was accommodating for our lack of cash and only credit. Outside the gates is primarily cash.

Great little shopping village for souvenirs. Definitely could use some updates and repairs but overall everyone was friendly. Only a few standing out front yelling as you walk by. That never gets me to come in. There are some good waterside bars...the thing not to miss are the conch fritters. They are a specialty of the Carribean.
Fort street is a nice place, with four piers and a lot of souvenirs shops, that you can buy magnets or other things to keep like a good memory of the place. From there I took a trip In boat to Goff Caye to do snorkeling, is a small island with a little dock and clear water for the snorkeling.
Nice place to chill for the evening. Ice cream shop is right there for a refresher
Overall great experience, Want to return for a blue hole dive. Sad to see the Taxi boat dumping bilge oil in the water. The Coconut rum stand was on point, Highly recommended.
If you're not on a cruise, you must exchange government ID for a pass. There is some paperwork you will also have to fill out, but it's not much. There is more variety here than outside in the town, but at a higher cost. If you have time, I would suggest comparing prices here from The Golden Bay store. Some of the stuff is the same and cheaper.
Beautiful views and a lot of fun finds for souvenirs. Affordable prices (especially considering tax free!) and you're usually able to negotiate for an even better price. Overall a fun place to explore!
