Thanks Tony for the guided tour of the Museum. It's well worth it, as Tony is so knowledgeable about the flax industry and its history. Now we understand why Foxton was settled and learning about what flax used to be used for. Making ropes, carpets etc. Lots of information and photos on the walls to read too.

Foxton was Harakeke heaven. The small building holds a lot of history.. A working stripper machine (in repairs at the moment), photos of the area showing the hundreds of acres being harvested. Even product on display. Donations accepted.
Interesting place. The manager is passionate about flax and flax farming. If you ask questions he will go off script and explain not about the local area. The museum is full of interesting pictures and history of the area.
Stepping into this grunty little museum...? Is like stepping back in time. The smells, the noises, to old historian telling his yarns... This is the real stuff! And when that century-old noisy Flax Stripper machine kicks into gear? You've feel like you've landed back in pioneering days. It's our nation's heritage come back to life...
I was not expecting to find a stripper museum in Foxton!
