Normally packed of people but this day they found a place for me. Fish was great and soup local and traditional. Be careful at wasps!!

Great place outside the city. It is a proper Biergarten and it has really good food. The area is quite, green and great to spend some hours there. There are just a few parking lots directly at the location, so you should expect to walk a bit from and to your car if you are driving to Gasthaus zum Stahl.
Food ok but let down as they won't serve alcohol free drink options unless you are at the restaurant.
Nice place with a big beer garden. They have tasty food. Lots of locals come here. Can have a slightly chaotic service but the staff is always very friendly and helpful. Got yoghurt ice-cream on the dessert simply substituted with sorbet after explaining that one of us had a dairy intolerance.
My wife and I are here and are surprised by the negative reviews. Prices are reasonable, food is delicious, service very nice, and in a lovely setting. Would definitely return. In response to the reviewer who posted about the tuna, it is really expected that a non-seafood restaurant in the Black Forest would have fresh tuna on hand in the event someone ordered a tuna salad??
a very lovely beer garden in a great setting near the Dreisam river with a wide assortment of things on tap. Perhaps not surprisingly since this place is in Germany, everyone speaks German - so indeed - as always "be ready to flex your German" as one commentator seemed to complain below. We stopped here after a very long hike through the hills along side it over from Freiburg winding around and it was a great place to rest on the way back. Also: if you order tuna salad, don't be surprised - it comes out of a can here, as tuna salad does 100% of the time elsewhere when it is served...
The ambiance was really nice. Food was overpriced, but it was expected given the fact this was the only restaurant around at that time. But the quality was below average. I ordered tuna salad and the tuna was definitely fresh out of 'can'.
Very nice service. Very nice trees. Very good vegan options. Nice wine.
