My mother moved to Friends House seeking a spectrum of care. Since she enjoyed walking on the campus, the administration punished her for seeking healthy activities outdoors and categorized her as a flight risk and a wanderer. This was not a justified designation. She was then not allowed to gain admission to Assisted Living and we were given one month notice to move her out in the middle of the pandemic. The staff at Friends House were uncaring and incommunicative. My mother suffered terrible transition trauma upon being more or less evicted. There are very nice grounds at Friends House; I would be very cautious and wary of the staff as they cannot be trusted.

Our family has had a mom, two aunts, and now another aunt live at Friends House in different stages of care. This is an amazing place and the care is exceptional. The facility is undergoing a complete renovation and the staff is consistently thoughtful and kind.

Friends House Retirement Community does not honor its contractual obligations. My parents lived independently at Friends House for almost 30 years. When they were ready to transition to assisted living, as their contract with Friends House allowed, Friends House decided that my father was not welcome. Friends House insisted that he sign a new contract. The contract negotiation between Friends House and my father dragged on for weeks. Friends House forbid my mother from moving to assisted living until my father agreed to a new contract. Having no place to live, my mother stayed with family members. She fell and broke her neck while climbing a flight of stairs. Following emergency neck surgery, she was allowed to return to Friends House. My mother lived another two years. Without a doubt, she would have lived many more years if she had not broken her neck. My mother died prematurely because Friends House willfully disregarded its contract with her.
