木原畷の古戦場跡、家康の腰掛け石や、ご神木のクスノキ、弁天池に浮かぶ厳島神社と見所の多い神社です。 古くは木原権現社と呼ばれていたものが、明治に入ってから許禰神社に改称されたものです。仏教風のネーミングが、神道的には宜しくないという神仏分離的な流れの中での変更なのでしょうね。
