This is some of the best pizza I've had in a long time. My girlfriend is from NY and said this reminded her of an authentic pizza place near her hometown. If you live in the area, do yourself a favor and try it out. Next I gotta try their subs. Follow @a_head_in_food for some great food spots from all around and some inspired dishes fresh out the kitchen.

Thought Gemelli’s was just a fantastic grocery store, and today’s visit made me realize it is also an incredible eatery. Had the hot Manzo sandwich on hard (rustic) bread. This was filled with roast beef, aus jus, provolone, and an assortment of acidic vegetables. The crunchy crust playfully yielded to a pillowy interior that absorbed most of the aus jus and broke far before forcing the sandwich’s filling out. I could eat just that sauce soaked bread! Meat was plentiful, tender, and had the appeal of home. Similarly, the provolone was shredded and piled on so that one could take a full mouthful and still have enough to eat with the corresponding section of meat. On top of these, the pickled-like vegetables provided an exquisite acidic contrast to the rich roast beef. Overall, one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Also tasted the Diavolo pizza which was similarly great, but not as enjoyable as the sandwich. It had excellent sauce that may have lacked in viscosity but washed over the tongue like an ebbing wave of freshness that left behind an exciting burning sensation. The rest of the toppings were alright. Crust was nice and thin while being crisp - their new oven is working wonders! Also tried their chocolate chip gelati. Again, pretty good but if I were going to get one thing it would be the hot Manzo sandwich. Now for the grocery portion, Gemelli’s has a fantastic selection of imported and home-made authentic Italian options. A wide selection of meats and cheeses not available elsewhere and homemade pastas are the highlights. Absolutely worth a look. Edit: Returned and tried the Polpette and Manzo again. Still prefer the Manzo! Also had the pepperoni pizza. Very simple with high quality ingredients that each hold their own. Puckering pepperoni filled with delicious tomato sauce and oil, freshly baked in their speciality oven. Excellent, and better than the Polpette.

Got carryout with a friend for lunch today. Seemed really busy. Not too much waiting. But a constant stream of phones in orders. My friend phoned in our order and it was ready in about 15 minutes. Both lunches were well prepared. This place is a gourmet eal Italian deli.\ Real Italian deli's are worth their weight in gold. Looking forward to dining in when we return to normal. Aren't we all!
