Nice but currently under renovation (Summer 2020).

Hard to get to, but worth the drive. We went in October but before peak leaves and were the only ones there. The ancient green forest here felt as though it were seeping a peaceful mana. A romantically natural place, that easily competes with any other in Japan, and probably the world, but without the crowds.

Gakuenji, such a beautiful and historical place where was a little far away from the main city with a reasonable driving distance, about 30 minutes. Visitors could easily park in parking lot and enjoy a short walk to Gakuenji. When you walk along, you would see lots of trees, rocks, tiny rivers and kinds of plants. The place was quite amazing, not too many visitors, peaceful and quiet environment, fantastic view, real-fresh air to breath, good to study some Japanese history (BENKEI) and culture, and relaxing. Had Been there around middle of November, the trees had just started turning coloring. Of course there were green as normal, and some Ginkgo turned yellow. Then, lucky me, the maple leaves (IROHA) had just about best time to change, therefore, green , orange, yellow, red leaves could be obviously seen. If you want to visit here, you need a great walkable boots to come with, cause gonna walk slightly up and down, do not expect all the way flat. If you want to visit here, you absolutely need to check the memory card and battery of the smart phone and camera. Highly recommended all passengers to spend basically around 1.5 to 2 hours here, not hurry, not rush, especially when autumn.

Dommage !
