Great views on a not too difficult trail. The waterfall was really beautiful. The drive back was a bit sketch at times. A sign states nothing larger than pickups yet a school bus was at the trailhead. Still a great hike. There's a fork that goes to an old barn and cabin, but the other way is the real trail. Definitely recommend it

Nice trail. It’s easy to moderate up to Fern Branch Falls at about the 2 mile mark. Mostly gravel road that turns into trail past the Messer Barn. There is an old cemetery and rock walls from old homesteads. You will also see an old hiking cabin and outhouse behind the Messer Barn.
It was simply beautiful! The trail was rated easy, but my wife and l think it should be considered a moderate hike. My Fitbit watch recorded 107 floors. Even though it is a gradual incline, it is a pretty good workout for us in our 60's.
ROAD CLOSED As of Memorial Day 2020 the road that goes to the trail is closed where Greenbrier Rd intersects Ramsey Prong Rd. The drive on Greenbrier Rd to get to the closed part was pretty and next to a river. The road is narrow so you have to pull to the side in places to let cars pass. We went to Ramsey Cascaded Trail instead.
This was a great trail. A good challenge, but easy enough to enjoy time with friends on the way up. With it being December, the waterfall wasn't exactly active, but still an amazing site to see. At times it felt like we were the only people on the trail - perfect for those of you looking to escape the typical touristy trails!
