What a somber place to visit and worth the time if you are into history with some time to explore. We have seen the signs for a while and decided to stop. It was worth the stop. The main building wasn’t open but we walked through the area. Follow the blue arrows and you will be able to find many of the sites discussed. This place was nice, clean and well kept.

Camp Hinzert is tucked away from main view very near to the Autobahn but you have to be on the smaller roads to actually see signs for it. Its very well kept and has a powerful feel when you arrive to see such an important piece of history innocently hidden as it is. The memorial is small but fitting and the museum is definitely worth a stop inside. It was not crowded at all and the research staff who run the museum were very happy to see us and very helpful. The descriptions are all in German but they have listening devices for free that translate everything. If you're interested in this topic of WWII history, I'd highly recommend making a stop for it on your way through the area.
I have driven past this place hundreds of times, today I stopped and will likely return again soon. I had the pleasure of talking with an elderly couple from Holland who were travelling through in their camper. They had a personal connection to places like this and shared some personal experiences. A nice peaceful monument to remind us of our unpleasant past and to honor those who suffered.
Very moving. And beautifully kept.
Very sad but interesting place
