As in the previous review, we were spoken to in a very rude and hostile manner by a ‘lady’ named Janet. The discussion over our enquiry to adopt was more like a grilling and was extremely unpleasant. She appeared to be looking for any opportunity to penalise us. She spoke over us, cut us off and was extremely abrupt. We have since spoken to The West of Scotland Greyhound Trust and they were excellent, thorough, informative and interested in our application. We look forward to welcoming our new pet soon. As for Janet and GAL, I would not recommend this particular organisation to anyone.

We completed an application to rehome a greyhound recently. We are home owners with a fully secure garden and 2 children. Aged 5 & 10. Our children are not familiar with dogs so would not approach them unless we had said it was ok, and even then would proceed with caution. I work 2 days a week. We cited in our application that we would employ the services of a sitter/walker on these days. We were contacted by a volunteer named Janet/Janice. She told me from the off that we had “too many demands”. We had expressed no preference in gender/size/colour or looks. Our only requests were for a dog who would be non-destructive in the home and laid back around children. I listened to her reasoning before responding. She said that all dogs would naturally run up to children and if my child then “reacted” that “the dog would suffer”. My children would not scream/run/hit but rather would stand still or move away if a dog bounded up to them. She also said dogs do not come house trained which I explained was fine, we are happy to house train. She also said that the fact I am out two days is too much, even though we clearly stated on our application that we would employ the services of a sitter/walker on those days. She then cut me off very shortly and unpleasantly by saying “we are refusing your application”. This is such a shame as we would have made a great family for a greyhound. The lady in question was very unprofessional and clearly hadn’t looked at our application properly. Due to her attitude, some poor dog is missing out on a good home. A pity.
GAL is a Greyhound adoption/fostering charity run entirely by volunteers. They have no office, but meet on the first Sunday of each month (except January) for their GAL Dog Walk in Strathclyde Park. They meet in the car park just behind the Toby Carvery, but you can give them a ring/email if you have any inquiries about the dogs. Adoption costs 150 (minimum, donation), but you get a free muzzle, a healthy (neutered/spayed, vaccinated, microchipped) dog, and a year’s free membership to the charity. They do brilliant work, and I cannot recommend them more.
